We started our group with members of similar interests, mainly tortoises, keeping with the aim of providing better care and facilities for tortoises. we have been a non-profit making organisation and any spare funds are used to improve the lives of our tortoises. We endeavour to discourage the importation of wild caught animals and encourage successful captive breeding.
We became a registered charity in September 2005 and were able to raise funds to refurbish the tropical house and then build a hibernaculum, mainly to house the varied species of tortoise and terrapins already living at the sanctuary.
We are aware that we need to become more energy efficient and our next project is to find a more economical way to run our facilities.
The trustees are all dedicated to helping the charity thrive and continue their work to promote the best husbandry to help with this and to run the sanctuary.
